Health Insurance for the Self Employed

Small business owners and the self employed sometimes have a hard time finding health insurance. If they do find it they find it is too expensive and just are not able to afford. So they either opt out of offering their employees insurance or they go uninsured themselves.

Are you a independent contractor? Maybe a mom working from a the basement of your home. Could you be a self starter running a small man operation that is growing fast?

Which ever you are you need health insurance. To go without is a financial risk. What if you become ill could you afford the bills and the time of work. Not likely. Health insurance is not a leisurely it is a necessity.

The internet is a great resource for information on health insurance. You can reserach, carriers, rates, plans and insurance lingo all from the comfort of home. Along the way you may discover what best fits your need.

With so many carriers there are many plans to look at. You may like the bare bone plans for their simplicity and low cost. You may find that you like the option of customizing your benefits for what you need by adding bnefits. Each carrier makes plans to suit the majority needs so you are sure to find something to work for you.

Small group insurance can be affordable if the group os primarily healthy. But for a group with some health risk those rates can go through the roof. Making them very unaffordable. So talk to your group and decide if this is a good option.

If small group is out of the budget you could ask carriers if they will do a list bill. What this can do for you is to offer to pay a portion of the employees cost. The employee chooses their plan based on their budget. the carrier send one bill and you deduct from payroll accordingly.
