Considering VOIP for your Business? - 10 Good Reasons Why.

By Andrew John

VOIP has been 'muscling in' on conventional telecoms for quite some time - here are some of the reasons why:

1. Cheap National Calls - UK ITSPs offer inclusive call deals or rates as low as 0.1p/min

2. Lower Call Rates to Mobiles - typically as good as LCR but without the stupidly long tie-ins - even chaeper with GSM gateway equipment.

3. Low Cost Overseas Calls - as most of the distance of the call will be carried via the web - rates are either on iclusive plans or approximately 0.1p/min(UK)

4. Low Cost Line Rentals - UK ITSP's such as Gradwell offer unlimited outbound trunks deals which greatly reduce your monthly line retal costs.

5. Home Workers Branch Office Calls are Free - if you switch these users then all these calls will be free.

6. Longer Call Recording - Voip calls recordings need less storage capacity than convetional calls and you dont require a seperate system for recording.

7. Keep your Geographic Number - by migrating your numbers to VOIP you can keep the number where ever you go.

8. Automatic Call Diversion - should your PBX/phone lines/internet fail your calls will be diverted automatically to numbers of your choice

9. Short Contracts - many ITSPs offer short contracts without tie-ins - typically 1 or 3 months leaving you free to switch should you need to.

10. Better Control - apply your own call diverts and change your phone system settings remotely at any time.

It's not always plain sailing to migrate to voiop as Companies like BT drag their heels with number porting & broadband quality varies with location. As with all telecom installations - success or failure is usually down to initial provisioning and the experience or incompetence of your installer.
